Utilitarian Chic

I love a good jacket. When you find something you like, you will wear a little too much...and then you worry about ‘wearing it out’ (no pun intended)...and then you wish you would have bought another one as a backup instead of the only one. You get the idea. Does this ever happen to you? Well, this old utilitarian jacket is my favorite and boy, do I wear it all the time. A little too much. I love the detail where leather meets camo/linen which gives it a little urban edge. It’s a much more interesting alternative to a typical leather or denim jacket, so why not mesh it together and get the best of both worlds? It’s necessary to have standard basics such as a leather jacket, denim jacket, and a blazer. But it’s exciting when you find pieces that have certain details that are special, that not many people have. And even more nice, when you get complimented on it wherever you go.

More importantly, when you love a particular piece, get 2 of it. Same goes for my amazingly soft and comfortable Genetic denim. I wear it too often & now the butt area is starting to thin out. Alas this particular style & fit is discontinued. Boohoo. If I only bought a few more pairs! Don’t let this happen to you. Learn from me. Get a backup! 2 is better than 1. xx

DVF Journey of a Dress

Zara dress, Banana Republic heels, Proenza Schouler PS11 mini bag

“Feel like a woman, wear a dress!”

And so I wore a dress.

The quote was the first thing you read when you walk into the colorful kaleidoscope of prints on the wall for the Diane Von Furstenberg’s Journey of a Dress exhibit. Too much of a cliché if I wore a DVF dress, so I wore my favorite “nun” dress. Obviously un-nunly-like due to the short length and the shoulder cut-outs, but doesn’t it kind of remind you of a nun habit? When buying dresses, it’s important to find one with features and details that are interesting. In this case, I really like the simple black and white with the cut-outs on the shoulders. It’s form fitting and surprisingly comfortable. My rule of thumb for shopping dresses, is to avoid buying ones too similar to each other. And always better to go a size bigger than a size too small because you can always tailor/alter for a better fit. But if it’s on sale?? Well, then all the rules goes out the window. Ha.

This exhibit was like walking into a candy store of many beautiful dresses. A constant temptation of wanting to take these dresses off the mannequins and stow it right on home straight into my closet. Happy to say I didn’t make it on to the 5pm evening news;)

The lighting inside was not the ideal setting for taking photos. But apparently it doesn’t matter because you will witness full-on fashion shoots happening right there on the spot...literally, on the ground, against the walls. I actually witnessed a girl rolling around on the printed floor in a bikini! Quite entertaining might I add. But I had fun too. And you should too.

The exhibit is showing January 11 - April 1 (now extended thru 5/1/14!) If you are in the LA area, you must check it out. Oh, did I mention it’s free?? All more the reason to go:) xx

That's a Wrap!

DVF wrap dress, Zara heels, Proenza Schouler PS11 mini bag, Michael Kors watch, Photos by: Tina Clara

Last month, I went to the Diane Von Furstenberg’s Journey of Dress exhibit at LACMA. The iconic wrap dress is celebrating its 40th year. It’s amazing how these dresses are still current & viable even after 4 decades! I guess when something is so good it never fades and stands the test of time. These wrap dresses are elegant, classy...and works with all body types. It is a must-have in your closet! With so many patterns and styles to choose from, you will have a grand old time finding the right one just for you...just like mine.

Next post will be a look inside the exhibit, so stay tuned. As they say in the show biz after a day’s shoot...that’s a wrap! xx jt

March Mishmash

Angl leather denim jacket (similar here and here and here), Moth jeweled collar sweater, Rag and Bone skirt, Zara platform wedges, Proenza Schouler PS11 mini bag, Chanel perfume iPhone case, Photos by: Tina Clara

It’s March Madness! I decided to go a little crazy by mishmashing stripes, florals, leather, and denim all together..and top that off with what I call a nerdy batgirl glasses (that I got from a random boutique store for $5). Basically, I couldn’t decide on what to wear so I decided to wear it all. There is no explanation and it just somehow works. It just screams FUN. Don’t you think?

I typically buy many of my pieces on sale, so it’s more or less past season items and no longer avail. That’s what savvy smart shoppers do! We LOVE sales. I try not to buy full price unless they are designer handbags or shoes. I will do my best in the future to incorporate more pieces that are current and available in stock. And if not, well too bad;) xx
